What I don’t understand is how people don’t see the utter hypocrisy Moffat displays in his Doctor Who companions. Moffat’s been quoted as hating Rose Tyler because she was a forced romantic companion on the Doctor.
And yet, that is exactly what River Song is.
FORCED.
Forced “my loves” and “sweeties” and “first dates” and “kisses”. The flirting and dancing that isn’t even remotely cute. Amy and Eleven have more chemistry than those two. Fact.
I don’t like being forced into liking someone just because you tell me I have to.
At least with Donna, you were annoyed with her for Runaway Bride, but had all of season 4 to fall in love with her at your own pace.
And all of season 1 to work with Rose opening up to Nine.
It was slow, it was careful, and it worked. That’s why it’s believable.
Not River Song’s annoying-as-fuck attitude.

She notices that the Doctor’s hurting and offers her company. Knowing that she can’t make up for the loss of his people, but willing to give what she can to help him. The Doctor is a soldier after a war, one that lost everything. Nothing can ever make that all better. But life can be made endurable, even joyous. Rose did that for him — made him smile and flirt and care. He looked at her and saw someone that made the universe beautiful and vivid and alive again. And, as they say, that’s not nothing.”
